Angelina Jolie Slams Gulf Nations For Banning Her Film: ‘It Is Ignorant’

Eternals, Angelina Jolie’s upcoming film, has been rumoured to have been banned by some Gulf countries.

Marvel’s Thena star Angelina Jolie acknowledged the censorship requests from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, which Disney refused to comply with since the film depicts a same-sex relationship.

“It breaks my heart to think of [the audience]. And I’m happy of Marvel for not omitting such moments from the film” Jolie told MM that she had something to say.

After all these years, “I still don’t understand how we live in this society today where there are still individuals who don’t perceive the beauty of the bond Phastos has with his family and the beauty of that relationship and that love,” she said.

“How somebody is furious about it, threatened by it, doesn’t accept or enjoy it is ignorant.”

Ten immortals struggle against the Deviants in the film Eternals directed by Chloe Zhao. Brian Tyree Henry plays Phastos, a man married to another man of the same sex as himself (Haaz Sleiman).

A leading position for a gay character is the first for Marvel.
