The death of a nine-year-old boy at the Astroworld Festival brings the number of fatalities to ten.
He had been in a medically induced coma and on life support since the crush on November 5 at Travis Scott’s festival in Houston, Taxas, on November 5.
According to a statement from the Blounts, a lawyer for the family said, ‘The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son. When they took their son to a concert, they expected it to be a joyful occasion. Instead, they ended up with this.
Heartbreaking: The death of Ezra is incredibly sad. The Blount family’s well-being is our primary concern. But tonight, we join the family in mourning and prayer.’
‘I am saddened to learn of Ezra’s death this evening.’ tweeted Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. Our city tonight is praying for his parents, grandparents, siblings, other relatives, and friends at this time..
The next few months and years are going to be critical for them. Hopefully, God will provide them with the strength they need. In memory of Ezra,’
On the shoulders of his father Treston, Blount watched Scott perform at Astroworld, where he had been accompanying his father.
Sicko Mode rapper Sicko Mode came on, and Treston passed out from the pressure of the crowd as they surged towards the stage.
His son was trampled to death after he fell to the ground.
To save Blount’s life, doctors placed him in an artificial coma because of brain swelling and damage to his major organs.
By filing a lawsuit against Scott and promoters Live Nation prior to Blount’s death, Blount’s family claimed their “grossly negligent conduct” contributed to the then-life-threatening injuries of the child.
According to the lawsuit, Blount was ‘kicked, stepped on, trampled, and nearly crushed to death’ because of ‘negligence in a great number of aspects, including crowd control, failure to provide proper medical attention, hiring and training and supervision and retention’, among other things.
