On Tuesday, March 12, actress Felicity Huffman was arrested and charged for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud in a shocking college admissions scandal nicknamed ‘Operation Varsity Blues.’
Huffman allegedly paid $15,000 to help her oldest daughter cheat on the December 2017 SAT and had planned to do the same for her younger daughter but never followed through with it.
Huffman was released on a $250,000 bond Tuesday night.
Besides the glaringly obvious moral implications of committing such a crime, forking over $15,000 for assistance in cheating on one exam is no cheap feat — most average people couldn’t afford to do so even if the thought crossed their minds.
But for Huffman and her husband, actor and screenwriter William H. Macy (who has not yet been charged in relation), the sum of the scandal fares small in comparison to their overall net worth.
Huffman, best known for her role as Lynette Scavo in ‘Desperate Housewives,’ reportedly made a whopping $275,000 per episode during the show’s eight season run.
Her earnings from that role alone on top of other major roles in movies like ‘Phoebe in Wonderland’ and ‘Transamerica’ put Huffman at an estimated net worth of $20 million.
Huffman’s husband, William H. Macy, is best known for his role as Jerry Lundegaard in the movie ‘Fargo’ as well as other films like ‘Boogie Nights.’
Those roles, combined with the reported $125,000 per episode he makes as Frank Gallagher on the hit show ‘Shameless’, brings Macy’s overall net worth to an estimated $25 million.
And though Huffman and Macy’s life choices may be questionable at best, their combined net worth is undoubtedly mind-boggling — the Hollywood couple is estimated to be worth a combined $45 million.
