If you happened to catch Jay-Z on Twitter Spaces, you’ve already heard his reaction to Kanye West’s Drink Champs appearance.
Ye’s interview with the Revolt series has sparked ongoing debate because the rapper did not hold back in criticising his peers during the candid tell-all, but it was his remarks about Just Blaze that Jay-Z found “unfair.”
Kanye West and Just Blaze were among the producers who worked on Jay’s sixth studio album, The Blueprint.
On Drink Champs, Ye was asked to choose between Swizz Beatz and Blaze as the better producer, and he slammed the latter for being a ripoff of Hov’s record.
However, that was not the case, according to Jay-Z.
Jay was asked about his thoughts on Ye’s interview on Twitter Spaces.
“Nore sent me a piece, and I’ve seen a few others. Again, I believe that everyone has the right to an opinion and that everyone can see things through their own lens” said Roc Nation’s icon.
“Some of it may be true, some of it may not be true, but that’s the lens through which you see it, so you’re only speaking to your truth.”
“I think the one thing I’d say out of all the pieces I’ve seen is…the Just Blaze thing was a little unfair,” he went on.
“Because if you’re making an album, and the assignment is Soul samples, everyone comes with Soul… Everyone created for the project. The baby’s name was The Blueprint, and I believe everyone should be proud of what we accomplished. It’s in the, I’m not sure what you call it, the Library of Congress or something. It is something we should all be proud of, and everyone should be recognised for their contributions.”
“I’ll say that everyone made a contribution, and I don’t believe anyone was plagiarising… We all had the same assignment and worked together to create this single body of work.”
Aside from that one section, Mr. Carter interprets the rest of West’s remarks as him expressing his own opinions and thoughts.
