Kim Kardashian West has come under fire for her “distasteful” ‘Saturday Night Live’ jokes about O.J. Simpson.’
Tanya Brown, the sister of O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, whom the former footballer was accused of fatally stabbing in 1994, was unimpressed with the 40-year-old reality star when she guest hosted the sketch show over the weekend.
During her talk show monologue, Kim credited her late father, Robert Kardashian, who had successfully defended O.J. in court, with opening her eyes to racial injustice in the United States.
I first met a Black person as a result of him. Consider making an educated guess as to who it was.
The first Black person you met may seem strange to remember, but O.J. does leave a mark, or several. It’s possible there will be zero. “I’m still not sure,” says the scientist.
It was “poor taste” to make jokes about Tanya’s death, according to Tanya, who told TMZ she and her family found the monologue “beyond inappropriate and insensitive.”
In another sketch, Kenan Thompson dressed up as the former ‘Naked Gun’ actor, who was found not guilty of the murders of Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman after an 11-month trial, but later ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages following a wrongful death lawsuit, during a ‘People’s Kourt’ sketch in which he wondered why the famous family no longer kept in touch with him, and O.J.
According to the former ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star, who has four children with her estranged husband Kanye West, talking about the O.J. trial is something she avoids out of “respect” for his family.
Her response was this: “I just regard his children with respect. So, unless they’re coming after me and I have to defend myself or a family member, I’m aware if I publicly say something that would hurt someone’s feelings.”
