Lil Wayne said he had a “great meeting” with President Trump on Thursday as he endorsed the administration’s plan to invest in black communities.
The 38-year-old rapper born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. posted a photo of himself and Trump smiling and giving the thumbs up in front of three American flags during their meeting in Miami.
“Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus,” Wayne wrote on Twitter. “He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”
The hip-hop heavyweight praised Trump for his work on criminal justice reform and said the administration’s “Platinum Plan” a policy aimed at winning over black Americans would “give the community real ownership.”
Ice Cube, another rap legend, helped the Trump administration develop the proposal, which includes expanding on economic-related initiatives in the black community, prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan and Antifa as terrorist organizations and making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
The seal of approval from Wayne came amid a number of hip-hop artists coming out in support of lower taxes and throwing their weight behind Trump’s re-election.
Last week, rapper 50 Cent said he would back the president, saying he didn’t want to become “20 Cent” because of Joe Biden’s tax plan.
He then apparently went back on his endorsement, writing on Twitter “f–k Donald Trump. I never liked him.” Rapper Lil Pump also said he wants no part of Biden’s tax plan.
“Trump 2020,” the “Gucci Gang” rapper said on his Instagram story. “F–k I look like paying an extra 33 in taxes for Biden. … F–k Sleepy Joe,” he said.
He also posted a Photoshopped image of himself in the Oval Office, shaking Trump’s hand.
Before he launched his own campaign for president, Kanye West was the first rap star to voice support for Trump, when he met the president in the Oval Office in 2018.
