Following a 9-1-1 emergency call, a police video acquired by TMZ Sports shows Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna clutching his wife’s neck as an officer arrives on the scene, according to the report.
Police were summoned to a house in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on May 29 to attend to a “assault in progress.” They arrived and found a “assault in process.”
The front door is open, and Ozuna is seen in the doorway holding his wife’s neck, according to bodycam video captured by the first officer to arrive on the scene. There is another another male who has not been named.
During the footage the cop pulls out his stun gun and orders Ozuna to remove his hands from his wife and lie down on the ground.
Ozuna followed with the officer’s directions without hesitation.
Ozuna, who is 31 years old, was just determined to be able to return to the field at the start of the 2022 season.
He was suspended for 20 games without pay for breaking the league’s joint domestic violence policy, which was retroactively applied.
After spending the most of September on administrative leave, he is deemed to have completed the period of time required to serve the suspension.
According to a statement from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, “my office has finished its investigation into the accusations that Marcell Ozuna violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy.”
The following is what I found after reviewing all of the evidence: “After careful consideration, I have concluded that Mr. Ozuna violated our policy and that appropriate action is warranted.”
Ozuna was arrested in May for domestic abuse and aggravated assault on his wife, just days after he dislocated the ring and middle fingers on his left hand.
He was charged with aggravated assault and domestic battery. His injuries necessitated the use of a cast and landed him on the disabled list.
The charges against him were dropped to a pair of misdemeanours in July after prosecutors reviewed bodycam video from the scene of the encounter.
