Pregnant Woman Shot & Killed While Offloading Gifts From Her Own Baby Shower In Philadelphia

On Saturday night, a pregnant lady who was unloading presents from her own baby shower was tragically murdered outside a Philadelphia house, in what police believe was a “cowardly” intentional killing, according to authorities.

A 32-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death, was killed as Philadelphia prepares to set a new record for homicides this year.

The identity of the expecting woman was not immediately made public because of privacy concerns.

Her body was transported to Einstein Medical Center, where she was declared dead, according to police officers. According to the authorities, doctors were unable to rescue her unborn kid.

On Sunday, detectives continued their efforts to identify a suspect or suspects, as well as to determine the motivation for the homicide.

In an interview with Philadelphia’s ABC station WPVI, Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Coulter said, “The individual who did this couldn’t be more cowardly.”

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said on Sunday morning that the city is offering a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in connection with the shooting.

In the Lawncrest area of north-east Philadelphia, the incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. when the woman arrived home from her baby shower and was unloading gifts from her Kia Soul, which was parked outside her home near the junction of Palmetto and Benner streets.

According to officials, a police officer on patrol two blocks away heard gunfire and located the pregnant lady outside her home with gunshot wounds to her head and stomach, according to the police department.

Approximately 11 shot casings were found at the location by investigators, according to the authorities.

As Coulter told WPVI, “When I look at this circumstance, it appears to me that someone was specifically targeting her and seeking for her.”

A gloomy count from the city’s Office of the Controller shows that as of the start of the weekend, Philadelphia police had investigated 491 murders in 2021, a 13 percent rise over the same time period in 2020, according to the grim count.

In 2020, the city had 499 homicides, one homicide shy of the city’s all-time homicide record, which was achieved in 1990 in the nation’s sixth-largest metropolis.

According to the Office of the Controller, at least 397 murders have occurred in Philadelphia this year as a consequence of gunshots, while another 1,582 persons have survived being shot in the city.

Lawncrest homeowner Tom McDonald claimed his wife heard the gunfire that killed the pregnant lady, whom he described as “a kind person who lived up and down the block.”

According to McDonald, who spoke to WPVI, “with something (that) just happened right here at the end of my street… enough is enough.” “It is past time for the city to do something about this. Everybody is becoming tired of it all. We (have) had enough of it.”

Coulter stated that the city and the police department are “doing everything we can” to address the situation. “We can’t stop folks who are determined to shoot someone,” she continued.
