Though Rotimi has zoomed up the acting ranks due to his role on the Starz hit TV series Power, the Nigerian Hollywood kid is salivating at the chance to rope his way back into the music fold.

After conjuring his hypnotic single “Want More” in 2017, Rotimi returns with not only a brand-new record, but a new partnership deal with EMPIRE.

“I wanted to sign to EMPIRE because I didn’t believe in an artist under a label,” says Rotimi after departing from 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records. “I wanted to do a partnership. I wanted to have creative freedom. I wanted to have conversations in a room where we collaborate on things and not go to a major because that system is old and I feel like this is a new wave where artists can express themselves and then they have a machine truly backing them. I wanted that. I wanted that for myself.”

EMPIRE founder, Ghazi, gushed about teaming up with the singer/film star. “Rotimi has proven to be a force in music, TV and film,” he tells Billboard. We’re happy to have him join the EMPIRE family and we love forward to him bringing incredible music to the world.”

With a new deal in tow, Rotimi swings for the gates with his summery single “Love Riddim.” The island-tinged track exudes splashes of “Want More,” enabling the singer to lure his love interest with his croons. “I don’t say too much/ I’m just here to touch,” he sings on the bouncy earworm.

“I think I finally found my sound. I finally found who I am. I gave them hints of it with ‘Want More.’ When I realized that ‘Want More’ was what connected with people the most, I said, ‘OK. Let me make a project where the formula is based around that,'” Rotimi tells MM of his upcoming EP titled Walk With Me. “But it’s seven different feels with that specific formula. I wanted to create a project where it was catchy and innovative because no one is in this lane. No one is in this lane of where it’s a gumbo of me, Akon and Craig David. That sound I feel like is in a lane of its own.”

Walk With Me drops May 24. Listen to “Love Riddim” below.
